The Restaurant - The Getty Center

The Restaurant is located in the Restaurant/Cafe building (upstairs from the cafeteria). The Restaurant offers full service in an elegant setting with views of the Santa Monica Mountains. Menus do change seasonally and the restaurant is opened for dinner service during summer.

I've passed by The Restaurant many times, but never thought about dining here. They have a pretty prestigious menu that compliments the art pieces you can find at the museum. Everything we had was fantastic.

Pepper Tomato Gazpacho - Recommended to open your palate.

Mission IPA

I think I had 3 slices of bread. Incredible with the soft butter served alongside.

Beet Hummus - Toasted Cumin, Cilantro Pistou with Pappadam Crisps. ADDICTING.

BBQ Flat Bread - Grilled Flatbread, smoky barbeque pulled pork, white cheddar, arugula and red onions.

Rucola con Pecorino arugula, crisp apple, applewood smoked salami shaved pecorino toscano, white balsamic

SUMMER FRUIT PANZANELLA  marinated mozzarella, wild rocket, torn croutons, pistachio honey balsamic. Seasonal Peaches and cherries were the summer fruits of the day. Delicious.

Crudo scallop, garlic oil, capers, tomato coulis fresno pepper

Chefs take on Pozole. PORK LOIN - Hominy, ancho puree, papaya cabbage slaw, cilantro. One of my favorite dishes.

PRIME FILET OF BEEF - potato pancake, spicy sweet glaze, crispy onion, pickled vegetables.

Prawns Pomodoro - locally milled wheat pasta, heirloom tomatoes garlic, basil

Dessert

Perfect restaurant to go for a special occasion or just to treat yourself to a nice meal before or after walking the Getty.

Spago - Beverly Hills

One of my favorite restaurants in Los Angeles. We dined here recently for Angela (Brother's fiancee) birthday dinner. We were seated promptly and complimentary bubbly was poured all around. No better way to start a full tasting.

I've been to Spago once, so this will be my second time. Spago was serving a special Akaushi wagyu that was just imported from Japan that night. Literally, the whole cow. That was one of my highlights from our meal.

Without further ado, below is the giant tasting menu we had.

I am ready to come back in summer.

Smitty's Grill

Back here again for a Holiday lunch. I mentioned before that I would love to come here to slug a few martinis, but today, I slugged a few old fashioned. Who care it's the holidays! right? Our waiter came by and presented the daily specials. I was craving salmon, but when he mentioned hanger steak, I knew that's what I needed to order no matter how much steak I will be eating this week. And since we are in the holidays, I asked for a side of horse radish cream because I am addicted. It's been kind of my new thing lately to eat all my steaks with horse radish cream. Try it, I'm sure you will like it too.

Hanger Steak here with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The steak is grilled and served with demi-glace sauce. Of course, it's medium rare or die. The meat was very flavorful, and tender, but more towards the center. I was in a happy place. The old fashioned made this taste even more decadent than it looks. I'm a carnivore and I love a red steak, but I could never order a rare steak. Medium rare is as far as I would go, unless I am eating tartare or carpaccio, of course.

I do recommend their specials. I noticed a lot of people order their pot pies. That will be my next hit list! Though I really want to have prime rib... Steak always prevails! but we will see next time.

Cheers and get grubbin!
